ASF and FRF launch financial education manual for football players

Bucharest, 19 December 2024 – The Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF) today launched, in partnership with the Romanian Football Federation (FRF), a financial education manual dedicated to football players aged 10-16, which provides essential information, much of it with wider applicability, to help them manage their personal finances and make informed financial decisions both during and after their sporting careers.

The publication of the financial education manual for football players is part of a more comprehensive collaboration protocol signed by ASF and FRF in May this year, with the common objective of facilitating access to financial education for as many football players as possible, but also for all those involved in this phenomenon.

"The launch of this handbook is an important step we are taking to develop players who not only excel on the field, but also have the ability to build a solid financial future. A career as an athlete is full of challenges as well as opportunities. With this handbook, we want to give footballers, and athletes in general, the tools they need to effectively manage their budget and make decisions that will ensure their long-term stability and prosperity", said Gabriel Avrămescu, First Vice-President of ASF.

"At the Romanian Football Federation, we believe that success on the field must be accompanied by responsibility in all aspects of life. We believe that this handbook will have a positive long-term impact on the careers of our players, contributing to the development of generations of footballers who are better prepared for life, both on and off the field", said Răzvan Burleanu, President of FRF.

The financial education manual for footballers covers a wide range of topics, from how to manage sports income responsibly to how financial products and services can protect their finances and provide stability after their sporting careers are over. The handbook also includes a series of practical applications designed to reinforce theoretical knowledge and provide an interactive experience so that athletes can better understand financial concepts and integrate them into their daily lives.

The manual can be found on the financial education website of ASF HERE, and also on the FRF website – HERE.
